The museum has recently acquired a very large weapons collection due to a loan from Dr. Bruce Burkett, DVM of Somerset, Kentucky.  Dr. Burkett has been an avid Civil War memorabilia collector for many years.  He obtained part of his collection while living in Virginia, a very prominent place to find Civil War items.  Dr. Burkett's collection here at the Visitor Center & Museum ranges from revovlers, to swords, to rifles.  And his items span across over 100 years, between the 18th and 19th centuries.  Thank you Dr. Burkett and family, with this new collection our museum can proudly run head-to-head with some of best in the state.

In February, Bill Carey gave tribute to General Zollicoffer and the Battle of Mill Springs in a two-page article featured in The Tennessee Magazine, a statewide electric cooperative consumer magazine that keeps readers abreast of energy issues, legislative activities and offers regular food features, human interest articles and editorial columns.  Bill Carey is a Nashville author and executive director of "Tennessee History for Kids" an online Tennessee history textbook.
